I was so proud of the little changes that I had made, especially of eliminating late night snacking and having self control with the foods I loved. I also added more fruits and veggies to my diet which naturally are a lot lower in carbs then bread or pasta. I also started eating fat free snacks when I was craving sweets. Eating oranges instead of Ben and Jerry's does make a big difference.
It wasn't until this February when I moved into my new apartment that I got really motivated to start doing any major exercising. I felt the need to become a new person for the new apartment. After all, I had updated my home, why not update my body? I was also diagnosed as pre-diabetic and told by the doctor that the best thing I could do to help was to exercise and lose weight while watching my blood sugar levels and carb levels in each meal.By the time I was diagnosed as pre-diabetic I had already lost around 30 pounds and was well on my way to be back down to my goal weight. My biggest milestone was being below 200 pounds. I know that I never should have been that heavy, but it felt awesome nonetheless.
I have been taking much longer walks with my two dogs, Colt and Katy, and I have been having a great time. I have never been a big fan of walking for long periods, to me it's boring. With my dog's it's a lot easier to walk for an extra fifteen or twenty minutes. That might not seem like a lot, like so many of the other small changes I have made, but if I walk fifteen minutes per walk, that's another forty-five more minutes of exercise a day. I don't always take long walks with them, but now that I have added that time in it doesn't feel like such a long time to walk for forty-five minutes.
I know there are a lot of diet plans out there and supplements that promise to help you shed pounds. You might have tried to lose weight before, only to fail and feel worse about yourself afterward. I'm not here to offer you yet another solution. I'm not here to tell you there is a miracle cure to magically drop your unwanted inches. It's not easy to lose weight when you have bad habits cluttering your life. I want you to know that it is possible to change your life. By making little choices you can make your goals attainable, so make a choice today that you are going to pick one habit a time and replace it with a good one. Find your weaknesses, your popcorn and saltines, and replace them with good things.
Losing weight is not something you can do in a week, you have to take the bad days and the good days as part of the process. Remember that your mistakes are not failures, they are learning opportunities. Before I finally made my commitment to really change, I had tried dozens of times to lose weight. But I did not learn from my mistakes, instead I felt guilty and got discouraged. I had to realize what I had done to allow myself to make that mistake and change it.
"Be brave and be patient. Have faith in yourself; trust in the significance of your life and the purpose of your passion. You are strong enough to sit in the space between spaces and allow divine inspiration to shed some light. When you put positive energy and productive effort into the world it will come back to you. Occasionally in ways you might not immediately understand and on a time frame you didn’t expect. Look. Listen. Learn. Stay open. Your destiny is awaiting you."— Jillian Michaels
